Program 01 · Daily hot meals
Daily Dastarkhuwan
Every day of the year, our volunteer kitchens cook and serve a hot meal — rice with salan, sometimes daal, always fresh roti — at fixed spots across Karachi. No sign-up. No documents. Whoever comes sits down.
The word dastarkhuwan is the cloth spread on the floor at mealtimes in a Pakistani home. That's exactly what we spread on the pavement: a long cloth, plates laid out in a row, water in jugs, and volunteers with ladles.
How it runs
- Cooking begins at three central kitchens by 3:30 PM daily.
- Meals leave in insulated hot boxes by 6:00 PM.
- Service at fixed points from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM — or until the pots are empty.
PKR 300 feeds one person one meal. PKR 9,000 feeds one person for a full month.
Program 02 · Monthly ration
Monthly Ration Packs
For families where a hot meal a day isn't enough, we deliver a full month's essential ration to the home. Every family is visited before enrolment — we check the household, the income, the number of people at the cloth.
What's in a pack
- 10 kg wheat flour (aata)
- 5 kg rice
- 3 kg daal (mixed)
- 2.5 kg cooking ghee or oil
- 1 kg sugar, 500g tea, salt, spices
- 1 litre milk powder or fresh where possible
PKR 8,500 covers one family's monthly ration. PKR 102,000 covers a family for the full year.
Program 03 · The month of Ramzan
Ramzan Iftar & Sehri
Ramzan is our busiest month. For thirty days we serve iftar and sehri to families who wouldn't otherwise be able to open or close their fast with a proper meal.
What we run through Ramzan
- Nightly iftar boxes: dates, roohafza, pakoray, samosa, fruit chaat, biryani.
- Sehri packages: paratha, egg or aaloo, dahi, chai — dropped early morning.
- Eid ration: a special ration with sewaiyaan, dry fruits and Eid staples for every family on our list.
- Zakat distribution: your Zakat is separated in our accounts and disbursed to eligible mustahiqeen per Shariah.
PKR 500 covers one iftar box. PKR 15,000 feeds one family for the full month.
Program 04 · Cold weather relief
Winter Relief Drive
Karachi's winter isn't Islamabad's — but for families in tin-roof homes in katchi abadis and on the streets, December and January are still hard. We run a winter drive every year with blankets, warm meals and heating gas.
What we deliver
- Thick woolen blankets — one per family member.
- Hot meals nightly through the coldest weeks.
- Heating gas cylinders for verified elderly and infant households.
- Warm clothing where donated in kind.
PKR 1,200 covers one blanket. PKR 6,000 covers a family's winter kit.
Program 05 · Rapid response
Emergency Relief
When Karachi floods, when a fire tears through a bazaar, when a katchi abadi loses everything overnight — we mobilise within 24 to 48 hours. Cooked food first, ration and shelter next, in coordination with local mosques and other organizations.
Our emergency response kit
- Ready-to-eat food packs (biryani boxes, chana chaat, rusks, water).
- Emergency ration packs — 7-day version of the monthly pack.
- Tarpaulin sheets and basic shelter supplies.
- First-aid supplies and coordination with volunteer medics.
Emergency donations are separated in our accounts and spent only on active emergencies. Unused funds roll over to the next event, transparently reported.
Program 06 · School support
Education Support
A full stomach isn't enough. Every child of a ration-list family gets a school bag, uniform, shoes and stationery at the start of the academic year. For a few students each year, we sponsor school fees where the school is willing to enrol.
What one child receives
- School bag, notebooks, pens, pencils, geometry set.
- Two uniforms and one pair of shoes.
- Where applicable, one term's fees at a partner school.
PKR 3,500 covers one child's school kit for the year.
